Granite (What you need to know)

If you have chosen granite for the kitchen or bathroom, make sure the fabricator and/or installer is knowledgeable.  There are things to ask when choosing your stone and hiring an installer.  Here are a few:
  1. What is the geology of the stone?
  2. What is the structure of different kinds of stone and materials?
  3. Quarry techniques that affect the stone
  4. Fabrication and installation requirements
  5. Can you do a chemical or physical test?
  6. Can you repair and replace?
Many people feel that the price of granite and it's installation is too high.  If you ask the before mentioned questions and hire a certified fabricator, you are getting your moneys worth.  It is much more than picking out a slab, cutting it and installing it.  Take a look at some of the photos below.  They will take you on a tour of where the stone comes from and how it is brought to the consumer.

The NEW Cabinet color is........

Just in, the new "in" color for cabinets has gone from white to GRAY.  Yes, gray.  We have been seeing it in bathrooms and kitchens.  It is a neutral alternative to tradition white.  Are you in the market for new cabinets?  If so, I would seriously take a look at this gray shade.  The possibilities are endless.  HGTV announces the new white as GRAY

Christian plug

I'm not offended if people do not believe in Christ.  Everyone has a right to their belief.  That being said, I am a Christian.  This day and weekend symbolize what Jesus went through so that our lives could be better.  This is my favorite holiday personally.  I realize the significance of Jesus' birth, don't get me wrong, but when I had children of my own, I felt a deeper connection to what God did and what Mary and Jesus endured.  I cannot imagine the pain of watching your child be spit on and beaten, hung and stabbed.  All for the people that cheered it on.  Can you imagine how that felt?  I cannot.  I woke up this morning with a little soreness and for a split second was going to complain and then remembered Jesus.  I found a crown of thorns years ago after searching for a while and it is propped in the living room as a daily reminder.  I've had children to our house visiting with my kids that wanted to touch it and to put it on.  No one has succeeded more that a nano second.  When they put that crown on Jesus' head, they pushed it down into his scalp!  The pain!!  I could go on forever about all that He went through that day, but if you are a Christian, then you know.  One of my favorite depictions of His crucifixion was the Mel Gibson movie.  I hope that you all have a wonderful weekend reflecting on the Gift that God gave us.  Spending the day with family and friends.  I hope you share the story with your children.  More than anything, I hope one more person connects with Him and truly understands the meaning of this day!  God Bless!

Weekly dinner menu + Grocery list

As a full time working mother of 3, 4 if you count my husband, I have little time to plan meals.  I have been on the other side as a stay at home mom and I can tell you that working puts a wrench in time management.  I will, and do, use every resource available to cut down on spending too much time worrying with planning meals so that I can spend time with my family.  I've also noticed that when you "fly by the seat of your pants" planning meals, you tend to spend more money.  I'm tired and all I can think about is getting home to put my feet up (after cooking dinner).Yea right.  No time for that nonsense.  Okay, back on track.  I found this link to planning dinners.  I really liked the printable version WITH the shopping list.  I just wanted to share this little gem with my fellow working moms.

Busy Busy

It's "trying" to warm up for spring here in N. Alabama with temperatures in the low 20's this morning.  Although it is below average temps, the city is buzzing with excitement for spring.  Spring is the time of remodeling.  Business is really picking up and we are loving it.  Chuck, the owner, has been in the spray booth this week and since he is getting married next month,  he is trying to keep the paint out of his lovely locks.  This is the solution he came up with.  I couldn't help myself from laughing and sharing with the world.  I hope you enjoy and hope your weather is better than ours right now.
